OUR STORY

ROBERTSON PASTURE

A Multigenerational Family-Run Ranching Operation

The vision of our operation began with Marvin and Arlene Large in the late 1960's.  Marvin's passion was cattle, good cattle.  While raising their 5 children on the ranch, they experimented with many breeds of cattle eventually settling on the Simmental breed.  He loved the easy feeding and docility of these cattle, as well as the ability to adapt to the environment.

Marvin found success in crossbreeding Simmental cattle with the Angus breed to maximize his profits finishing his own cattle in the feed lot.  He was proud to market a finished product to the packers at 13 months of age or less.

The Large family were some of the first to utilize Artificial Insemination in our local area.  Marvin became a representative for ABS and quickly started AI'ing small groups of cattle in the area.  Today the ranch still backgrounds and develops heifers on a custom basis.  The need for good and safe handling facilities for these projects led to the the invention of Larges Portable AI barns.  The first prototype was built with Marvin and his sons in the building used today for our Annual Bull Sale.We are proud to say that the cattle we are raising on this ranch are home genetics.

The 400 head cattle operation is a result of the AI process that begun here in the 70's.  The bull calves offered each year are carefully selected based on performance, docility, and their outstanding phenotype.  We hold nothing back for ourselves, our customers are being offered our elite genetics before we choose our own herd sires. With the passing of Marvin and Arlene, their children have committed to continuing the vision that was created.  Long time ranch manager, Jeremey Gittlein, along with his wife and adult children run the daily operations and continue on the custom feeding and heifer programs along with continuing the bull sale after all these years.
